TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Former College of Southern Idaho Volleyball star
Airi Miyabe left her mark on the Golden Eagle Volleyball program and is now headed to the 2024 Olympics representing Japan.
Miyabe played for CSI in 2017 and 2018, leading the Golden Eagles to a runner-up finish in 2017 at the NJCAA National Tournament and a national championship in 2018. It would be CSI's 12th national championship.
She earned NJCAA Player of the Year and American Volleyball Coaches Association Player of the Year honors in 2018.Â
In her two years at the College of Southern Idaho, Miyabi led CSI to a 31-4 overall record as a freshman and a 31-2 overall record as a sophomore.
The outside hitter from Osaka, Japan, earned Region 18 first-team honors, NJCAA All-American honors and AVCA All-American Second Team honors as a freshman. She was even better as a sophomore. Miyabi was the Region 18 Player of the Year, the NJCAA Player of the Year, NJCAA First Team All-American, AVCA Player of the Year, AVCA First Team All-American, NJCAA National Tournament MVP and also was named to the Region 18 All-Tournament team.Â
She ranks sixth all time in the record books for kills at CSI with 807, fourth in kills per set with 3.82 and fifth in service reception percent at .954.Â
Japan currently ranks no. 7 in the world. They finished 10th in the Tokyo in 2020. Japan will open the 2024 Olympics July 28 at 5 p.m. (France time) against Poland, the fourth-ranked team in the world.
