TWIN FALLS, Idaho - For the second year in a row the Golden Eagles will land a transfer from a major division one program as they have officially signed Tanner Hayhurst.
Hayhurst is originally from Eagle, Idaho, and spent his freshman season at Brigham Young University after serving a two-year LDS mission. Hayhurst brings size and experience to the Golden Eagles as he competed in one of the toughest conferences in college basketball last season. Hayhust appeared in 11 games for BYU a season ago and recorded his first points in a game against Bellarmine on December 22nd.
Before his time in the Big 12 conference, Hayhurst was a standout at Eagle high school as he was an all conference and all state selection both his junior and senior year, while leading the Mustangs to the state tournament in both seasons. Hayhurst led the 5A classification in scoring both his junior and senior seasons while eclipsing career single game highs in points with 34 and rebounds with 20. Hayhurst was especially dominant his senior season where he averaged 22.1 points and 7.8 rebounds a game while shooting an efficient 54% from the field and 81% from the free throw line.
"We are very excited to add another Idaho Native to our roster for next season. Tanner is a big-time player with experience at the highest level of college basketball. His experience playing in the Big 12 with BYU will be invaluable here at CSI," said CSI head coach Jeff Reinert. "His skill, maturity, and basketball IQ will allow him to have an immediate impact for our team next season."
Hayhurst comes from a family of athletes as brother Austin played at Salt Lake Community College, sister Kate is committed to play volleyball at Kansas and father Scott played basketball at Weber State. Outside of high school basketball, Hayhurst played for the Oakland Soldiers and Select Basketball, two very well respected programs on the AAU circuit.
