CSI Men's Basketball sends seven to the next level

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Men's Basketball Program finished the 2022-23 year with a 29-2 record (undefeated regular season) and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament. Now seven of it's players will look to have that kind of success at their next school.
Those moving on are: Rob Whaley (UNLV), Joel Armotrading (Cal Poly), Isaiah Moses (UC Riverside), Nate Meithof (Oregon State), Hasan Abdul-Hakim (UT Rio Grande Valley), Ga'Khari LaCount (Barry University) and Garrett Hawkes (Eastern Oregon University).
Whaley, the Region 18 Player of the Year, averaged 14.4 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
"We are very excited that Rob is going to be a Runnin' Rebel," UNLV Head Coach Kevin Kruger said. "He has had a very successful junior college career and is a winner. Coach (Jeff) Reinert at CSI does a tremendous job with that program. We love Rob's feel for the game and he has great vision. His UNLV teammates will love playing with him and he will provide us with a unique versatility and physicality that not many players possess."
Armotrading, a crowd favorite with his jumping ability, blocked close to 3 shots per game to lead the Scenic West Athletic Conference. He also averaged 6.2 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game.
"We're extremely excited about Joel's addition as he provides us more size and athleticism in the frontcourt," fourth-year head coach John Smith said. "He has the ability to defend, rebound and run the floor and will make a positive impact immediately due to his ability to defend all five positions and put pressure on the rim in pick-and-roll situations. He has a motor that doesn't shut off and it shows every time he steps on the floor. Joel is an excellent student with high character, which fits the Cal Poly brand that we're after."
Moses, an NJCAA All-American, averaged 16.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
"Isaiah is a special talent, and that was proven while leading the No. 1 junior college team in the country for most of the season," UC Riverside Head Coach Mike Magpayo said. "It culminated with some out-of-this-world shooting percentages and an All-American Award."
Meithof, one of the most dynamic scorers in the conference, averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Golden Eagles.
"Nate's a terrific addition to our program," said Oregon State Head Coach Wayne Tinkle.  "He has really worked hard and improved over the last several years.  He's a high-level shooter and scorer, and with his IQ he understands the importance of passing and cutting as well. The most important thing is he's a proven winner, as his team spent most of the year ranked No. 1 in the country.  Nate really grew under Coach Reinert's leadership and we believe he'll be ready to contribute immediately."
Abdul-Hakim, a second team Region 18 selection, averaged 10.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for CSI.
"Hasan is a very versatile, very athletic player that can guard every position one through five," UTRGV Head Coach Matt Figger said. "He can play all three guard positions. Hasan is a strong, powerful guy who is explosive off the floor and can finish in traffic. He played on the number one team in junior college, allowing him to bring that winning experience to our team. We're very excited to have him help us take the next step."
LaCount, a guard for the Golden Eagles, averaged 5.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
"Ga'Khari is an experienced, versatile point guard who will bring a strong dose of leadership to the team," Barry Head Coach Butch Estes said. "To have a successful team you need a strong backcourt and with the addition of Ga'Khari and the rest of the guard in this class, we now have that."
Hawkes, who was a key player off the bench for the Golden Eagles, averaged 4.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He will join a Mounties Team that finished with a 21-11 overall record and competes in the Cascade Conference of NAIA.
