Box Score 2 YUMA, Ariz. - The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team beat Georgia Military 6-4 at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the NJCAA National Tournament before falling to second-seeded Yavapai College 3-0 at 10 p.m. to end its season.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early against Georgia Military, trailing 3-0 through three innings. CSI scored it's first run when
Kylie Baumert walked and
Gracie Tentinger knocked her in on a single. With Golden Eagle pitcher
August Cowan keeping Georgia Military off balance in the circle, CSI put together a big sixth inning to secure the win.
CSI led off the bottom of the sixth with hits by Baumert, Stoddard and Tentinger.
Saige Nielsen hit a two-rbi double to tie the game and then
Rachael Brown drove a ball over the fence for three more runs and the win.
Nielsen finished the game 3-3, Tentinger was 2-3 and Baumert was 1-2 with a walk. Cowan earned the win, going seven innings and giving up two earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
That win set up a pitching battle with Yavapai College.
The score was 0-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Yavapai struck first on a solo home run. The Roughriders added two more runs on a couple hits and errors.
The Golden Eagles had chances all game but couldn't get a run across. Each team finished the game with five hits and 11 strikeouts.
Brooke Merrill was dominant for CSI in the loss, going all six innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits with 11 strikeouts.
At the plate, Tentinger was 1-for-2 with a walk, Baumert was 2-for-4 and
Caitlin Turner and
Maizie Clark each had a hit.
The Golden Eagles end this year with a 48-13 overall record and tied for ninth place at the national tournament.
