CARSON CITY, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho baseball team had its chances in every game Thursday and Friday, playing Western Nevada tough. But the Golden Eagles came away with an 8-4 victory and fell 7-4, 5-4 and 5-3 in the other three games.
CSI jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game 1 when
Harrison Ramey's single plated
Ethan Ibarra and
Jordan Freese. But Western countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. The Golden Eagles tied the game in the third when Ramey laid down a bunt to score Freese. The Wildcats answered again with one run in the fourth and three in the fifth. CSI was able to score a single run in the fifth but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats took the 8-4 win.
Bodie cooper ended the game 2-for-4 with a double, while Ramey was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In game two, Western Nevada scored first, taking a 2-0 lead into the fourth. But the CSI bats got hot and the Eagles scored three runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a lead it would never relinquish, winning 8-4.
Ibarra finished the game 3-for-3, while teammate Mike Ortega hit a home run, going 1-for-2 with three RBI. On the mound,
Zack Draper went 7.0 innings, giving up just five hits with five strikeouts for the win.
On Friday, the Golden Eagles battled back and forth in game three, forcing extra innings. CSI took the 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth on a
Mikey Ortega solo home run but Western Nevada answered with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the 5-4 win.
Parker Loutensock took the loss, coming into the game in the eighth and giving up the tying and go ahead runs.
Mason Hilty went 7.0 innings, giving up just five hits with seven strikeouts.
In the final game of the series, Western Nevada scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed.
Jake Boyd went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles and Freese finished 1-for-3 with one RBI and a double.
CSI pitchers Damen Jones,
Tyler Coleman and Loutensock combined to give up only eight hits for the game.
The Golden Eagles move to 9-7 overall and 1-3 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. CSI travels to Rangely, Colo., to take on Colorado Northwestern Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
