RANGELY, Colo. - The College of Southern Idaho fell to Utah State University Eastern 59-56 Friday and Colorado NW 76-74 Saturday to solidfy the fourth seed in next week's Region 18 Tournament.
The Golden Eagles managed to hit just 29 percent from the field against Eastern and couldn't get shots to drop in the end. CSI held the nation's leading scorer Priscila Santos to 20 points but it wasn't enough.
Mechela Barnes led CSI with 17 points.
Chakala Carthen added 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Against Colorado, the Golden Eagles could not stop Jaynelle Johnson. The guard hit seven 3-pointers for the Spartans, scoring 27 points. CNCC shot 58 percent from beyond the arc for the game, while CSI shot 29 percent.
Chakala Carthen led the Golden Eagles with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
CSI, 15-15 overall and 7-8 in conference play, opens the Region 18 Tournament at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Salt Lake CC. The Bruins are the five seed. The winner of that game will play top seeded North Idaho Friday at 5:30 p.m.
