SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The CSI Volleyball team finished their weekend at the Crystal "Inn"vitational 2-2 after falling to 4th-ranked Weatherford College Saturday morning, and knocking off Central Wyoming in the second half of a doubleheader.
In the morning game, the Golden Eagles rallied all the way back from two sets down to force a fifth and final set, which they lost in a back and forth affair, ultimately losing the match 20-25, 16-25, 27-25, 25-22, 13-15. The loss marks the second of the year for CSI, both coming at the hands of nationally ranked opponents.
Emerson Heatwole continued her great start to her sophomore season with 22 digs, while setter
Dalayni Brindley dished out 42 assists. Freshman
Brinley Bybee led the Golden Eagle attack, finishing with a season high 20 kills in the loss.
In game two, the Golden Eagles once again bounced back in a big way, rolling to a 25-13, 26-24, 25-18 three set sweep of Central Wyoming. The Golden Eagles totaled 39 kills and nine service aces, ending the weekend on a high note.
Heatwole once again led CSI in digs with 15, while
Mary Irwin set the high mark in assists at 18. Freshman
Jeslynn Furniss was a force in the middle, finishing with six kills, a solo block, and four block assists.
Southern Idaho, now 6-2 on the young season, will return home for the annual STARR Corp invitational, where they will make their home debut on Thursday night, when they take on Treasure Valley Community College at 7:00 p.m.
