CSI Baseball caps impressive season with Region 18 honors

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - Not only did the CSI Baseball Team win the Scenic West Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship but the Golden Eagles also have the Region 18 Player of the Year and Region 18 Coach of the Year.
Crew Secrist topped the voting, hitting .441 at the plate to earn Player of the Year honors. The sophomore outfielder finished the season with 23 doubles, five home runs and 63 RBI. He also had 21 walks and a .493 on base percentage.
He broke the all-time season and career record for most doubles (in the wood bat era) with 23 for a season and 43 for a career. 
CSI's Boomer Walker was named Region 18 Coach of the Year after finishing 43-14 overall and 17-7 in conference play to win the regular season title. Walker surpassed 700 career wins this year, taking his overall record to 718-499.
In addition to those two accolades, four Golden Eagles were selected to the Region 18 First Team and four were named to the Region 18 Second Team.
Jackson Gardner, Ryder Cutlip, Trey Purser and Secrist were first-team recipients. 
Gardner, a freshman pitcher, was tabbed the top relief pitcher in the conference. He finished the season with a 1.91 ERA, throwing in 33 innings and giving up just seven earned runs on 17 hits with 33 strikeouts.
Cutlip hit .379 with 10 doubles, 10 home runs and 55 RBI. With his 42 walks and 12 hit by pitch, the first baseman had an incredible .530 on base percentage.
The all-time Golden Eagle home run record holder (wood bat era), Purser hit .348 at the plate with 10 doubles, 21 home runs and 78 RBI. The sophomore designated hitter now holds the most home runs in a season (21) and career (27) at CSI in the wood bat era. 
The final CSI selection was all speed. Howard, a sophomore, hit .381 at the plate with 14 doubles and three triples. He led the Golden Eagles with 16 stolen bases.
Earning second-team honors for CSI were Grayson Riding, Kaleb Doty, Cade Burnham and Tayson Howard.
Burnham was the Golden Eagles starting shortstop. He hit .356 at the plate with 14 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 39 RBI. Burnham also had six stolen bases.
Riding was the Golden Eagles starting game one pitcher all season. The freshman finished the season with a 4.88 ERA and an 8-4 record. He pitched 75.2 innings, giving up 41 earned runs on 71 hits with 69 strikeouts.
Also a pitcher, Doty posted a 2.97 ERA with a 6-0 record. He pitched in 38.1 innings, giving up 18 earned runs on 34 hits with 39 strikeouts. The freshman held opponents to a .254 batting average.
The final CSI selection was all speed. Howard, a sophomore, hit .381 at the plate with 14 doubles and three triples. He led the Golden Eagles with 16 stolen bases.
CSI finished the season as the Region 18 Tournament Runner-up.
