TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho had some timely hits to beat Colorado Northwestern 6-3 Friday and advance to the Region 18 Championship series next week.
The Golden Eagles took the early 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on a
Trey Purser home run but Colorado Northwestern answered with three runs in the top of the fifth.
CSI then went ahead to stay in the bottom of the sixth when
Stockton Fowlks doubled and
Sawyer Slade hit a two-run shot for the 4-3 lead.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the seventh when
Ryder Cutlip tripled to score
Cade Burnham and
Crew Secrist followed with an RBI double.
Secrist set the all-time season doubles record (wood bat era) with 23 on that double.
Degan Rigby came into the game the top of the sixth and shut down the Spartans, giving up no runs on one hit with three strikeouts.
Kaleb Doty earned the save, pitching the final inning and giving up no runs on no hits with two strikeouts.
CSI, 43-12 overall, will host Salt Lake CC in the Region 18 best-of-three championship series. Game times will be 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and the if-necessary Saturday at noon.
The winner of that will advance to the district championship at the Region 9 winner.
