Golden Eagles come up short in Friday series

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball Team lost to #18 Salt Lake 21-8 and 6-5 Friday in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Despite the lopsided score, the Golden Eagles pounded out 11 hits in game one, including two home runs by Jack Barker and one by Brexten Starley.
Trey Purser was 2-for-3 and Tayson Howard was 2-for-4.
Braxton Yates took the loss, pitching the first 2.1 innings and giving up six earned runs on five hits.
Game two was a battle to the end.
The Golden Eagles took the 5-4 lead into the sixth inning before Salt Lake tied it in the top of the sixth. CSI looked poised to score with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh but the Bruins first baseman made a great play on a line drive to get the double play and end the threat.
Salt Lake scored the winning run in the top of the ninth after CSI gave up a lead-off error that eventually scored.
Howard finished the game 2-for-5. Barker had a two-RBI double and Jack Ryan was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Shay Benson started the game, pitching 5.2 innings and giving up five earned runs with three strikeouts. Degan Rigby took the loss, pitching the final 3.1 innings and giving up no earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.
CSI, 30-24 overall and 8-14 in conference play, host the Bruins again Saturday at 11 a.m. The sophomore class will be honored prior to first pitch.
