CSI Softball splits with #6 SLCC in Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho beat Salt Lake CC 6-4 in eight innings before falling 9-8 in game two of a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader.
The Golden Eagles relied on the play of Eva Stoddard and Courtney Christiansen in the opener. Stoddard pitched all eight innings, giving up four earned runs with 10 strikeouts. Christiansen provided the offensive spark.
The sophomore was 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI, one home run coming in the eighth inning to put CSI up for good.
The Golden Eagles added an insurance run on a Lexi Crowley RBI hit in the eighth as well. Crowley was 2-for-4 with a double for the game.
Game two was all SLCC early but CSI got back in the game in the fourth inning on a Lily Heitz grand slam, trailing just 5-4 going into the bottom half. But Salt Lake answered with three of its own to go up 8-4. and added a run in the fifth.
The Golden Eagles rallied in the seventh inning, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-rbi triple by Anslie Yazzie and a two-run home run by Abbie Banning. But CSI would score no more for the final tally.
Heitz finished the game 2-for-3, Adi Hansen was 2-for-4 and Christiansen was 1-for-2. Ella Farrell earned the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and giving up four earned runs with five strikeouts. Marissa Mauger was solid the final three innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts.
CSI will take on the Bruins against Sunday in a doubleheader.
