TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho baseball team kicked off their 2025 campaign with a tough one run loss to Pima Community College Friday afternoon, 5-4.
Southern Idaho got off to a roaring start as they plated two in the first inning thanks to a two run triple off the bat of freshman
Crew Secrist.
Shay Benson was in command early, until the fourth inning, when the Golden Eagles surrendered seven free passes, four of which resulted in runs for Pima. Southern Idaho answered back immediately in the top of the fifth when an RBI single from Jac Barker cut the lead in half at 4-3. A Pima sacrifice fly in the sixth inning pushed their lead back to two, the lone run surrendered by
Mason Hartle in 3.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. Southern Idaho battled down the stretch as
Kason O'Neil clubbed the Golden Eagles first home run of the year to trim the Pima lead back down to one, but were retired in order in the ninth leading to the one run defeat. Barker and O'Neil led the way offensively with two hits a piece and an RBI a piece. On the mound, Benson suffered the loss giving up four runs, two earned, and five walks in his 3.1 innings of work.
Hayden Hudman was perfect in his one inning of work coming in with runners on in the bottom of the eighth and retiring the Aztecs in order. Southern Idaho will continue their opening weekend tomorrow, with a doubleheader against Pima beginning at 11:00 a.m.
