ROSWELL, N.M. - The 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Volleyball battled with eighth-ranked Odessa, falling 25-11, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18 Friday to open the NMMI Volleyball Invitational. The Golden Eagles bounced back to beat Tyler JC 21-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 in the second match of the day.
Hazuna Akishige led CSI with 23 digs in the first match, passing a 2.5.
Isabel Smart finished with 13 assists and
Sofia Llinas had 16.
In the second match,
Tavie Rogers led the offense with 12 kills and five serve aces.
Kelsy Stanger added nine kills, hitting 2.77. In the middle
Mina Benucci finished with three blocks.
"We bounced back from our first match and competed really well this afternoon," CSI Head Coach Andria Harshman said. "Key players like Tavie and Kelsy really stepped up at the pin to terminate even when we were out of system."
The Golden Eagles will take on Pima at 8 a.m. and then Dodge City at noon to finish out their opening weekend trip.
