TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball Team took a 7-2 win over USU Eastern Thursday before falling 9-7 in extra innings in game two.
The Golden Eagles wasted little time in game one, jumping on the scoreboard, scoring seven runs in the first two innings and coasting the rest of the way.
Eliot Jones was 1-for-2 with a double and three RBI,
Colby Carter was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI,
Kaden Schuck was 1-for-2 with a double and
Logan West was 1-for-2.
Shay Benson pitched a gem to make sure the Golden Eagles got the win. The freshman went all seven innings, giving up two runs on two hits with four strikeouts.
In game two, CSI trailed 7-2 going into the bottom of the eighth but put together a big inning, tying the game up. But after a scoreless ninth for both teams, USUE scored two unearned runs in the top of the 10th and the Golden Eagles didn't answer.
Brody Duvall was 2-for-4,
Gavin Schoonover was 1-for-2 with a double,
Tyler Vance had a home run and Schuck was 1-for-3 with two RBI for the game.
Cooper Littledike earned the loss, pitching the final 2.1 innings and giving up no earned runs on one hit with four strikeouts.
Garrett Miller pitched 4.2 innings in middle relief, giving up one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts.
CSI, 28-23 overall and 11-16 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play, will host USUE for a doubleheader Friday at 11 a.m. Between games, the sophomores will be honored.
