MOSCOW, Idaho - The long road trip was worth it as the CSI Men's and Women's Distance Track Teams set 21 personal records, had nine national qualifiers and one school record this weekend at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Track Meet at the University of Idaho.
The Golden Eagles competed against runners from University of Montana, Lewis-Clark, University of Idaho, Eastern Washington University, Central Washington University, UC Riverside, Eastern Oregon and Whitworth College.
Elizabeth Phillips had a great meet for CSI, setting a school record in the 3,000 meters in 10:18. It was also a personal best by 22 seconds. She took sixth at the meet and qualified for the NJCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field National Championships. She also qualified for nationals in the mile at 5:11 and the 800 meters at 2:20.Â
Teammate Jannaveve Bingham also had a big meet. She placed seventh in the meet in the mile in a time of 5:07. It's the second-fastest indoor mile time ever by a CSI runner and a personal best. She qualified for nationals and then did it again in the 800 meters, taking second in the meet in 2:15.
The final women's runner to qualify for nationals this past weekend was
Jaresa Jackson in the 1000 meters. The sophomore ran a time of 3:07.
On the men's side, three individuals qualified for nationals.
Jackson Pratt ran the 3,000 meters in 8:40, a personal best and a qualifying mark;
Cayden Tupper ran 2:32 in the 1,000 meters to qualify and
Bryson Ottley finished the 800 meters in 1:55 to qualify.
CSI next travels to Pocatello for the Stacy Dragila Invitational Friday with a chance to add more runners on the list of qualifiers.
