TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball Team beat league-leading Southern Nevada 6-4 before falling 3-2 in the second game Sunday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game one behind the dominating pitching performance of
Josh Trentadue and then held off a seventh-inning rally by the Coyotes.
Greyson Shafer was 2-for-3 at the plate with two home runs, a walk and four RBI.
Logan West was 2-for-2,
Tyler Vance was 1-for-1 and
Junior Garcia was 1-for-3 with a double.
Trentadue got the win, going six innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts.
Dax Newman earned the save, pitching one inning and giving up one earned run on two hits.
Between games CSI honored the nine sophomores that will graduate this May.
All of the action happened in the first inning of game two.
Southern Nevada scored three runs in the top of the first inning before CSI answered with two in the bottom. Neither team scored from that point on in the nine-inning game.
CSI's four hits came from
Eliot Jones, Duvall, Shafer and
Colby Carter.
Ashton Johnson earned the loss, going 5.1 innings and giving up no earned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Kaden Cloward pitched 2.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit with two strikeouts and
Jordan Rowley pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
CSI, now 26-14 overall and 10-14 in conference play, travels to Salt Lake CC Friday and Saturday.
