TWIN FALLS, Idaho - After falling to USU Eastern 5-1 in game one on Monday, the Golden Eagles battled back from a 9-1 deficit to take game two 13-12 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
CSI trailed 9-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when the Golden Eagles rallied for seven runs. With the bases loaded,
Tai Walker hit a two-RBIÂ single to begin the scoring spree.
USUE scored three in the sixth and CSI added one in the bottom half to set up late-game heroics by
Junior Garcia.Â
Kaden Schuck walked to open the bottom half of the seventh.
Eliot Jones singled. With one out, USUE intentionally walked
Greyson Shafer to load the bases. After a Golden Eagle strikeout, Garcia laced a ball to the right side to score Schuck and Jones for the walk-off win.
Garcia finished the game 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Jones was 2-for-4, Shafer was 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBI,
Brody Duvall was 2-for-3 and
Colby Carter was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Brennen Chappell earned the win, pitching the finals 1.2 innings and giving up no runs on no hits with two strikeouts.
In game one, the Golden Eagles never got their bats going. CSI's four hits came from Jones, Garcia,
Cole Rollins and
Preston Viera.Â
Jaxon Christensen earned the loss, going 1.1 innings and giving up four runs on four hits. Malcom Bartholomew pitched the final 5.2 innings, giving up one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts for the Golden Eagles.
CSI, 21-12, hosts USU Eastern again Tuesday for a doubleheader, starting at 11 a.m.
