TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho found themselves in a 4-0 hole to start its nine-inning game Saturday with Salt Lake. But the Golden Eagles battled back to take the 6-4 win to even up the weekend series.
With runners at second and third and two outs CSI trailing 4-0 in the first inning,
Andrew Baughn entered the game to completely shut down the Bruins the rest of the way.
He finished the game throwing 8.1 innings and giving up no runs on two hits with eighth strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles gradually climbed back into the game on offense, plating one in the first and two in the third before a two-run fourth inning put them ahead to stay.
Briggs Newman led off the inning with a single. After a fielder's choice out by
Magnum Hofstetter got Newman out,
Zach Schmidt walked.
Crew Robinson was hit by pitch to load the bases for Zach Petersen. Peterson then reached base on an error by the right fielder, plating Hofstetter and
Noah Hennings reached on a fielder's choice RBI to give CSI the lead.Â
CSI added one more run in the sixth when Schmidt tripled and scored on an error by the right fielder.
Schmidt finished the game 2-for-3 as did Newman. Peterson and Hennings were each 2-for-4.
CSI improves to 12-12 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Golden Eagles host Community Christian Thursday, Friday and Saturday in a non-conference series.
