YUMA, Ariz. - The 14th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball Team finished off the Great Western Shootout Tournament with wins over #9 Yavapai College 3-2 and Central Arizona 9-2.
The Golden Eagles beat Yavapai in the bottom of the ninth inning when
Caitlin Turner hit a single up the middle to score
Maizie Clark. Offensively, CSI got hits from
Sidney Eyre, Turner,
Sophia Stoddard and
Cortney Rhees. Despite only having four hits, the Golden Eagles were able to get the win behind the pitching of
Gracie Walters and
Siera Horton. Walters pitched the first 4.2 innings, giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts.
Siera Horton came in to the game in relief to earn the win, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up just one hit and no runs with five strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles got their bats going in game two against Central Arizona.
Eyre finished the game 4-for-5.
Maya Williams was 1-for-2 with a grand slam, two walks and five RBI. Rhees was 1-for-2. CSI was again dominant in the circle.
Jessica Touchard earned the win, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up just two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Kenzie Waters pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up no runs on one hit with one strikeout.
CSI, now 6-4 overall, next play Feb. 19-21 in Henderson, Nev.
