HENDERSON, Nev. - The 17th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball Team beat Southern Nevada 2-1 before falling to sixth-ranked Salt Lake CC Friday in a non-conference tournament at College of Southern Nevada.
The Golden Eagles headed into the bottom of the seventh inning tied at one with CSN.
Maya Williams walked with no outs.
Cortney Rhees laid down a sacrifice bunt. CSN tried to back-pick Williams off of second and an errant throw rolled into left field allowing Williams to score the winning run.
Sophia Stoddard finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI, while
Caitlin Turner and
Sidney Eyre each went 1-for-3.
The win marked CSI Head Coach
Nick Baumert's 600th win of his career at CSI. In Baumert's 14 seasons, he has compiled an overall record of 600-253-2 with six Region 18 Coach of the Year awards.Â
Against Salt Lake, the Golden Eagles trailed just 1-0 going into the fifth inning but an error early in the inning proved fatal as SLCC then strung some hits along with some CSI walks together to put 10 runs on the board put the game out of reach.
Rhees finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate, while Eyre was 1-for-2 and Turner was 1-for-3. In the circle,
Kenzie Waters threw the first two innings, giving up just one earned run.Â
CSI, now 7-5 overall, takes on Salt Lake again Saturday at 11 a.m. MST and Colorado Northwestern at 1 p.m. MST.Â
