YUMA, Ariz. - After struggling to open the 2021 season, the 14th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball Team bounced back Thursday and Friday to beat Central Arizona 9-4, Eastern Arizona 8-5 and Yavapai College 14-1. The Golden Eagles lost to #10 Arizona Western 3-1.
The Golden Eagle pitching shined in all four games. CSI posted a team ERA of 2.10 through those four games, while opposing teams finished with a 6.07.
CSI opened the tournament, leading from start to finish against Central Arizona.
Sophia Stoddard finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI.
Sidney Eyre and
Cortney Rhees each went 2-for-4. Rhees had a double and three RBI.
Payton Hammond was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI along with three walks.
In the circle,
Kenzie Waters earned the win, going 4.1 innings and giving up one earned run on six hits.
Gracie Walters threw 2.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on 1 hit with three strikeouts.
After being run ruled the previous week against Arizona Western, The Golden Eagles battled played the Matadors to a much closer score. Hammond went 1-for-2 at the plate with one RBI and
Caitlin Turner was 1-for-2. In the circle,
Jessica Touchard earned the loss, going 5.1 innings and giving up two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
Siera Horton threw .2 innings, giving up no run, no hits with one strikeout.
The Golden Eagles beat Eastern Arizona in one of their most exciting games so far. CSI and EAC battled into the 12th inning before a three-run home run by
Carley Croshaw sealed the win for the Golden Eagles.
Cortney Rhees ended the game 2-for-4 and
Maizie Clark was 3-for-5. But is was the CSI pitching that kept the Golden Eagles in this game and ultimately opened the door for the win.
Walters threw the first 7.2 innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts. Horton came in and pitched the final 4.1 innings to earn the win, giving up no earned runs on one hit with seven strikeouts.
CSI wrapped up the second day of the tournament with a run rule win over Yavapai.
Rhees and
Maya Williams each went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Hammond was 1-for-1 with three walks and four runs scored.
Kenzie Waters dominated in the circle. The sophomore gave up just one earned run in five innings with seven hits and four strikeouts.
CSI, 4-4, play Yavapai College and Central Arizona on Saturday to finish the tournament.
