Golden Eagles outplay #18 SLCC but come up short

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team had all the makings of an upset with Staley Hansgen on the mound Thursday in its series opener with #18 Salt Lake CC but the Bruins had other plans sneaking past the Golden Eagles 3-2 in the nine-inning game.
Hansgen threw masterfully through 7.1 innings giving up no runs on three hits and three strikeouts. But his day was over after walking two batters with one out. Salt Lake took advantage of those walks and added two more with Ethan Horner in relief. Tyler Curtis came in and gave up one more hit before shutting down the Bruins but the 3-run damage had been done.
The Golden Eagles managed to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't push ahead.
For the game CSI out-hit SLCC 11-5.
Griffey Larsen finished 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Eagles and turned two inning ending double plays. Colton Easton was 2-for-3 with a walk. They were the only CSI players with more than one hit. Jackson Kohler finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
CSI, not 8-10 overall and 0-5 in conference play, will take on Salt Lake Friday at noon for a doubleheader and finish up the series Saturday at 11 a.m. with a nine-inning game.
