Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball ends weekend on a high note

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball lost three close ones Friday and Saturday to Cochise College 6-5, 9-5 and 8-7 before finishing off the weekend Sunday with a 11-1 run rule.
Even better, College of Southern Idaho Head Baseball Coach Boomer Walker earned his 500th career win on Sunday.
Beginning his 17th year as the head coach, Walker has posted a 500-364 record so far in his career.
The Golden Eagles battled in both games Saturday, just falling short.
In game one, the Golden Eagles outhit Cochise but a 3-run home run and several unearned runs for Cochise doomed CSI. The Golden Eagles still had some solid performances at the plate. Briggs Newman went 3-for-3 with a double and one RBI and Noah Hennings was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Andrew Gregersen was 2-for-3 and Hayden Foltz was 1-for-1. On the mound, Nate Dahle earned the loss, going 3.2 innings and giving up three earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles were tied at six through four innings of game two and took the lead in the fifth when Charlie Tentinger led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a ground out and then scored on a Jackson Kohler sacrifice fly. But Cochise countered with two runs in the top of the sixth and held the Golden Eagles.
Colton Easton went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He was only player with more than one hit. On the mound, Staley Hansgen went five innings, giving up just one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Sunday's game was all CSI.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Crew Robinson was 2-for-3, Zach Schmidt was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a double and a triple. Briggs Newman was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Dawson Stiefel was 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Kyler Murray picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and giving up no earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Stephen Wade came in and threw two solid innings. He gave up no runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles, 1-3 overall, will play Scottsdale CC Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Las Vegas.
