TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho and Miami-Dade have played each other in three of the past four NJCAA National Championships. And in the past four years, each team has won two National Championships. Together the schools have 22 national volleyball championships. So it only made sense that Friday's matchup between the two teams would be a battle. This time, fourth-ranked Miami-Dade came out on top over 14th-ranked CSI, beating the Golden Eagles 29-27, 18-25, 25-19, 25-14.
CSI held a big lead in the first set but Miami-Dade fought back. The two teams swapped points to the end until a kill by Miami-Dade and a hitting error gave the Sharks the 29-27 win. The Golden Eagles bounced back to take set two but couldn't sustain, losing the final two sets.
Taylor Burnham led CSI with 14 kills. She added nine digs and two blocks.
Alyssa Curtis finished with eight kills and four blocks, while middle blocker
Letarona Mose had seven kills and six blocks.
Defensively,
Kylie Baumert led all players with 21 digs.
Payton Spoja added 15 as well as seven kills.Â
Setters
Sean Garvin and
Quinn Kellogg combined for 36 assists and 12 digs.
The Golden Eagles take on Laramie County at 1 p.m. and Missouri State University at 5 p.m. Saturday.
