CSI Softball stays alive in Region 18 Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team fell to Salt Lake CC 12-1 early Thursday before bouncing back to beat Snow College 4-0, advancing to the Region 18 Championship Friday at 11 a.m.
Since the addition of softball as a sport at CSI 13 years ago, the Golden Eagles have competed in the championship game of the Region 18 Tournament every year.
The Golden Eagles struggled to get anything going at the plate against the Bruins. Tristin Evans produced CSI's only hits of the game, singling early and then homering late for the only run.
The slow offensive output continued in CSI's second game of the day as the two teams headed into the bottom of the six tied at 0. To that point the Golden Eagles had scattered just three hits. With time running out, CSI put together a rally much like the one it had one day earlier against the Badgers to win.
With one out, Kylie Baumert took first on an infield hit. Hannah Peterson followed with a home run to put the first runs on the board. Evans laced a double off the fence before Kalena Shepherd hit another Golden Eagle home run. That was all CSI's Kamryn Grover would need in the circle as she came out and held Snow scoreless for the win.
Grover pitched all seven innings, giving up just three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Peterson and Evans were the only two with multiple hits in the game, both going 2-for-3.
CSI will take on Salt Lake CC in the championship at 11 a.m. Friday. The Golden Eagles would need to beat the Bruins twice to win the championship and advance to the NJCAA National Tournament.
