CSI Softball wins eighth straight

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team swept Utah State University Eastern 9-1 and 6-5 Saturday to finish off the regular season with eight straight wins.
The Golden Eagles started off game one with seven hits in the first inning and four runs. They finished with 13 hits and run rule. In the bottom of the fifth, Sherry Boone led off the inning with a sun ball double to shortstop, followed by a Nikki Zielinski single and a walk-off home run by Kassidie Brooks to end the game.
Tristin Evans ended the game 2-for-2 with one RBI. Boon, Zielinski and Kylie Baumert all were 2-for-3. Hadlie Henderson earned the win in the circle, going five innings and giving up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Game two looked like it would be more of the same after CSI took a 5-0 lead through two innings. The Golden Eagles scored one run in the first. Carley Croshaw led off the second inning with a double. Baumert walked before Hannah Peterson hit a one-rbi double to left center. Evans then sent a shot over the right field fence for three RBI.
USU Eastern scored two in the fifth before CSI answered with one in the bottom half. The Eagles added two more in the sixth and one in the seventh but it wasn't enough and the Golden Eagles held on for the win.
Evans was 2-for-2 at the plate. Kalena Shepherd was 3-for-3. Kamryn Grover earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings and giving up three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Mailee Jensen earned the save.
CSI, 36-20 overall and 27-13, enter next week's Region 18 Tournament in Salt Lake as the second seed. The Golden Eagles will play Snow Wednesday at 4 p.m. to open the tournament.
