CSI Softball sweeps #4 Salt Lake on Friday

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team scored early and hung on for the 8-5 win in the doubleheader opener and then came back in game two to win 8-7 over fourth-ranked Salt Lake CC in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the first two innings of game one. The biggest damage came in the second inning when Carley Croshaw and Kylie Baumert walked and Hannah Peterson ripped a three-run homer to take the score to 5-0. CSI added three more in the inning on a Tristin Evans double, Kalena Shepherd single and a Hadyn Flygare double.
That was enough run support for pitcher Mailee Jensen to earn the win. The freshman finished the game, giving up just six hits and four earned runs.
Batchelor finished the game 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Baumert was 2-for-3 with a double.
In game two, CSI took the quick 2-0 lead to start the game but Salt Lake added five in the top of the second and maintained the lead until the fifth inning. With the Golden Eagles down 7-6 in the fifth inning, Sherry Boone hit a bomb to right center to tie the game.
CSI scored the winning run in the sixth. Baumert led off with a double and Evans hit an RBI single to score Baumert.
Salt Lake threatened in the seventh with two on and one out before Jensen came in to close the door. She forced a ground out to pitcher and one to short stop to end the game.
Henderson earned the win in the circle, going 6.1 innings and giving up seven runs on 12 hits.
At the plate, both Peterson and Evans went 2-for-4 with doubles. Shepherd went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
CSI, now 12-8 overall and 5-1 in conference play, hosts Salt Lake Saturday at noon for another doubleheader.
