Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Golden Eagle Men fall to cross-state foe North Idaho

TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Men's Basketball team struggled to make free throws down the stretch, falling to North Idaho 72-70 in the first day of the Immediate Physician's Care Tournament.
The Golden Eagles fought back and had a chance to tie at the buzzer, getting the ball back with eight seconds to go and down two points. CSI's Sebastian Renoso-Jimenez was fouled as he went up for a layup and went to the line with 1.4 seconds to go. After missing the first free throw, he intentionally missed the second to give CSI a chance at a rebound and putback to tie the game. The ball went out of bounds off a North Idaho player, giving the Golden Eagles one more chance to tie the game. With .6 on the clock, CSI passed the ball in and fired off a 3-pointer that fell short.
CSI made just 11-of-22 free throws, while North Idaho made 20-of-31. That proved to be the difference.
Mike Hood led the Golden Eagles with 28 points. He added four rebounds. Stevie Smith finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Sawyer Storms tied Smith for a team-high nine rebounds and added seven points. Guards Kendall McHugh and Deng Dut combined for 12 points, five rebounds and nine assists.
CSI, now 8-4 overall, plays Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Northeastern lost earlier Thursday to Snow College 65-53. In the first game of the day, Central Florida beat Yakima Valley 94-67.
