HENDERSON, Nev. - After falling in its opening two games of the season the 7th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball team reeled off three straight wins to open the season 3-2 Friday and Saturday at the Las Vegas Kickoff Classic.
The Golden Eagles fell to 18th-ranked Yavapai 8-7 and Arizona Western 10-8 before battling back and beating Central Arizona 11-8, 9th-ranked Eastern Arizona 10-2 and Pima 21-8.
CSI was hot at the plate all weekend. The Golden Eagles hit .447 as a team and finished with 13 home runs.
Leading the way was returning All-American
Tristin Evans. The sophomore posted a .722 batting average and a .773 on-base percentage. She hit three home runs with nine home runs.
Freshmen
Kalena Shepherd,
Carley Croshaw,
Nikki Zielinski and
Kylie Baumert were solid in the opening weekend.Â
Shepherd finished with four doubles, one home run and six RBI with seven walks. Croshaw hit .500 with two doubles and four walks. Zielinski posted a .471 average with two doubles and five RBI, while Baumert hit .450 with three home runs, eight RBI and two walks.
Sophomores
Hannah Peterson,
Kassidie Brooks and
Anjalee Batchelor all showed their power, each finishing with two home runs apiece and combining for 21 RBI. Peterson also added a double and three triples.

Hadlie Henderson ed the way, going 1-0 with a 2.17 ERA in 9.2 innings pitched along with six strikeouts.
Freshman
Mailee Jensen earned a win in her 10 innings of work as well, posting a 5.60 ERA. Sophomore
Kamryn Grover added the last win in the circle for the weekend.
CSI next plays Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Yuma, Ariz.
