SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The second-ranked College of Southern Idaho battled through five sets to beat #5 New Mexico Military Institute 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14 Saturday in the Salt Lake Tournament and then swept #4 Western Nebraska 25-22, 28-26, 25-17 to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Airi Miyabe led the Golden Eagles in the opener, posting 17 kills with just two errors along with five digs.
Payton Spoja added 16 kills and 15 digs for the CSI, while
Kylie Gibson finished with nine kills and five blocks.
In the middle,
E'laisah Young had eight kills and three blocks and
Letarona Mose had six kills with three blocks.
Sean Garvin finished with a double-double (58 assists and 12 digs).
Kylie Baumert had a match-high 16 digs for the Golden Eagles.
In the second match, 13 different players contributed to the win.
Miyabe again led CSI with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Alexis Mareko added 10 kills and three blocks in the middle. Spoja had another solid game, finishing with nine kills, seven digs and three blocks.
Sacha Legros led the defense with 17 digs.
CSI returns home to host the Starr Corporation Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles open action Thursday at 7 p.m. against Casper College.
