SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Volleyball team dominated the first set 25-12 Friday against Missouri State West Plains but then struggled to sustain, falling 25-19, 25-15, 25-17 to lose the match. The Golden Eagles rebounded to beat Western Wyoming 25-22, 25-11, 25-18 in their second match of the day.
Outside hitters
Airi Miyabe and
Kylie Gibson combined for 23 kills, 15 digs and two blocks against MSWP, while
Jovana Vukcevic added 11 kills. Still The Golden Eagles posted just a .188 hitting percentage and finished with only five total blocks in the four-set match.
Sean Garvin had a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs and
Kylie Baumert led the team defensively with 22 digs.
Against Western Wyoming, CSI finished with a much higher hitting percentage (.398) fueled by Miyabe, Vukcevic and middle blockers
E'laisah Young and
Alexis Mareko.
Miyabe finished the match with 15 kills and just one error along with two aces and two blocks. Vukcevic had seven kills, four digs and four blocks. Young and Mareko combined for 13 kills and nine blocks. Garvin again finished with high assists for CSI. The freshman had 36 along with six digs. Baumert led the team in digs with 10 along with two service aces.
The Golden Eagles, now 5-1 overall, take on #5 New Mexico Military Institute at 9 a.m. and #4 Western Nebraska at 1 p.m. Saturday.
