PRICE, Utah - One day after falling to USU Eastern 3-2 twice on walk-off home runs, the College of Southern Idaho Softball team used the long ball to beat the Eagles 11-0 and 15-7 on Saturday.
Game one on Saturday was all CSI.
Siearrah Anderson hit two home runs, going 2-for-2 at the plate with one walk and five RBI.
Hannah Peterson and
Melanie Groenewegen also hit home runs for the Golden Eagles.Â
In the circle,
Stefani Zimmerman dominated. The sophomore threw all five innings, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts.
Game two did not look good for the Golden Eagles early as they trailed 7-0 going into the fifth inning. CSI finally got on the board with a 2-run home run by Anderson.
But it was the sixth inning where the Golden Eagles bats came alive.
Hailey Hicks led off the inning with a home run followed by a walk and a Groenewegen home run. After a an USUE error and two outs,
Courtney Argyle singled before Anderson hit her fourth home run of the day. Those six runs put CSI up 8-7 and the Golden Eagles did not trail again.
Zimmerman entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to shut the door. She gave up no runs with just one hit for the save.
The Golden Eagles added five runs in the top of the seventh on a home run by Peterson and
Nicole Renner and a double by Groenewegen.
For the day, CSI tallied 10 home runs to take its season total to 103 home runs, two behind nation leading Yavapai College.
The Golden Eagles hold a one-game conference lead heading into their final four-game series at home against Southern Nevada.
