ST. GEORGE, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team fell to Salt Lake CC 6-3 before run ruling the Bruins 10-2 in game two Thursday in its Scenic West Athletic Conference opener. Due to inclement weather conditions, the series was moved to St. George, Utah.
The Golden Eagles played from behind the whole first game, trailing 6-1 going into their last at bats. After a ground out,
Hayden Leatham and
Nolan Walker each went yard to pull within 6-3 but that was as long as the rally would last as CSI posted another ground out, then a double by
Nick Dolce and a strikeout to end the game.
No CSI player finished with more than one hit.Â
Mason Foltz earned the loss, going 4.0 innings and giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts.
Game two was all CSI. The Golden Eagles jumped on Salt Lake in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. After the Bruins added a run in the fourth, CSI answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.Â
CSI led 7-2 going into the bottom of the seventh and shut the door.
Shawn Grandmont homered before
Ryke Erickson was hit by pitch and
Travis Bohall and
David Hudleson both walked. A
Colin Gordon single plated one before Hudleson later scored the game-ending run on a passed ball.
Dylan Steen pitched a gem for the Golden Eagles. The sophomore went the distance, giving up just two earned runs on two hits and five strikeouts.
Bohall finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Grandmont was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
CSI takes on Salt Lake Friday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for another double header at Snow Canyon High School.
