HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team opened its season with a 3-2 loss to Pima College before beating Arizona Western 8-7 and Eastern Arizona 11-1.
The Golden Eagles struggled at the plate in the opening game as
Nicole Renner and
Stefani Zimmerman managed the only CSI hits of the game. Renner went 2-for-3 with a double and Zimmerman hit a home run. The CSI pitchers allowed only two hits but struggled for control, giving up 10 walks.
The Golden Eagle bats got going in games two and three.
Against Arizona Western,
Melanie Groenewegen finished the game 3-for-4 with a bases-clearing double and five RBI. Renner and
Hailey Hicks each went 2-for-3.
Hadlie Henderson picked up the win in the circle, going three innings and giving up four hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.
In the Eastern Arizona game, Hicks hit a home run. Renner continued to crush it, going 2-for-2 with a home run and a double, while
Anjalee Batchelor was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Kylie Jones earned the win, going five inning and giving up just one hit.
CSI plays fifth-ranked Yavapai and 10th-ranked Central Arizona Saturday.
