TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team combined to hit six home runs Friday in a doubleheader sweep of USU Eastern 10-2 and 11-3.
Melanie Groenewegen hit the lone CSI home run in game one but still the Golden Eagles pounded out plenty of hits.
Skylar Cook was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Madi Ford was 3-for-4,
Nicole Renner was 2-for-3 and
Shelby McKinnon was 2-for-3. Groenewegen finished the first game with four RBI, while McKinnon had three.
In the circle,
Samantha Riesen earned the win, giving up just three hits with four strikeouts and two earned runs.
Groenewegen continued her hot bat, hitting another home run in game two. She,
Erin Emanuel and
Nicole Renner hit back to back to back home runs in the fourth inning.
Jaici Bishop also hit a home run in the same inning for the Golden Eagles. Renner added a second home run to finish the game 2-for-2 with three RBI and one walk. Both Groenewegen and Emanuel were 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Skylar Cook finished the day perfect, going 3-for-3 in game two with a stolen base.
Stefani Zimmerman claimed the win in the circle, giving up five hits and one earned run with two strikeouts.
CSI, now 35-15 overall and 25-9, host USU Eastern Saturday at noon for the final regular home games of the season. The nine sophomores will be honored between games.
