TWIN FALLS - The nine sophomores filled the field Saturday to lead CSI Softball past USU Eastern 12-6 in the first game. The Golden Eagles completed the four-game sweep with the 11-5 win in game two.
Neither game came as easily as the two run-rule victories on Friday. The Golden Eagles found themselves in a 4-0 deficit to open the first game. But they responded scoring two in the first, four in the second and three in the third. USU Eastern would put two on the board in the fourth but that would be it as CSI added three more runs to put the game out of reach.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 16 hits in the game. Â
Taylor Tahbo led the way, going 3-for-4 with a double.
Shelby McKinnon was 3-for-4 with two doubles, while
Madi Ford and
Skylar Cook were each 2-for-4.
Jaici Bishop hit CSI's only long ball of the game.
Stefani Zimmerman, entered the game in the first inning for the Golden Eagles and earned the win, going 6.1 innings and giving up just five hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts.
Game two saw the Golden Eagles in a similar situation as the first game, trailing early. USU Eastern took the 5-3 lead into the fourth inning. But CSI's bats got hot and the Golden Eagles scored three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Leading the way at the plate was Bishop. She finished the game 4-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI. McKinnon had another good game, going 2-for-3, while Ford was 3-for-4 with three RBI and
Melanie Groenewegen was 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Kylie Jones earned the win, pitching a complete game and giving up two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
CSI, now 37-15 overall and 27-9 in SWAC play, travels to Southern Nevada Friday and Saturday to finish up regular season play.
