EPHRAIM, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team won the weekend opener 11-8 in a crazy finish before dominating game two 8-0 Friday in a Scenic West Athletic Conference clash.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one but watched it disappear in the bottom half when Snow scored 3 runs of their own.
CSI reclaimed the lead in the top of the third and held the 5-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. But Snow tacked on two runs and was up 6-5 headed into the seventh and final inning. That's where things got a bit interesting.
With the bases loaded and two outs, it looked like Snow would walk away the winner as Golden Eagle
Jaici Bishop struck out swinging. But the ball got away from the catcher and
Erin Emanuel slid into home safely to tie the game at 6.
Shelby McKinnon added to the run production with a rbi walk to put CSI up 7-6. Golden Eagles added a run on a passed ball before Mikelle Magalogo had a pinch hit 3-run home run to give the Golden Eagles some insurance.
They would need it as Snow scored two in the bottom of the seventh. But that would be it as CSI pitcher
Samantha Riesen forced a fly out to right field to end the game.
Nicole Renner finished the game 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a home run.
Melanie Groenewegen was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
The Golden Eagles scored runs behind a great performance by Stephanie Zimmerman. The freshman threw a complete game shutout, giving up just five hits.
At the plate, CSI's
Katie Basinger and
Courtney Argyle led the way.
Basinger finished the game 3-for-3 with one RBI and Argyle was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
CSI, now 26-12 overall and 14-4 in conference play, takes on Snow again Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
