TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team pounded out 24 hits and gave up just four in beating Colorado Northwestern 19-0 and 9-1 Saturday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
Leading the way with an impressive day was second baseman
Sarah Phillips. The sophomore finished the day 5-for-6 with four home runs, one triple and 10 RBI. Teammate
Melanie Groenewegen also put together a solid day. The freshman 5-for-6Â with two doubles, a home run and four RBI.
Katie Basinger and
Taylor Tahbo each added home runs to the Golden Eagle hit total.
And while it was good to see the bats get hot, the pitching was just as dominate.
Stephanie Zimmerman won game one, giving up just one hit and not runs.
Samantha Riesen followed that with a three-hit, three-strikeout performance and gave up just one run.
CSI had a wake-up call Friday, falling to Colorado Northwestern 8-5 in the weekend series. But the Golden Eagles responded with three straight run rules, getting one Friday 10-2 before the two on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles, now 16-10 overall and 8-4 in SWACÂ play, travel to USU Eastern Friday and Saturday.
