TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team jumped out to a 3-0 lead Friday in a single nine-inning game against Treasure Valley and held on for the 4-3 win in a non-conference matchup.
The Golden Eagles originally were scheduled to play University of Fraser Valley Wednesday and Thursday. But the college club team from Canada canceled its trip south due to injuries and illness. The Chukars from Ontario, Ore., then agreed to come to CSI and play the single game Friday to give the Golden Eagles at least one game this week before it travels to Colorado Northwestern next Thursday and Friday.
After both teams were scoreless through the first inning, CSI put the first run on the board in the bottom of the second when
Kelton Christensen hit a one-out double and later scored on a strikeout wild pitch.
The Golden Eagles added two runs in the third.
Blake Sanchez hit a one-out home run for the first. With two outs,
Trevor Lippard laced a double to left and Christensen plated him with a single for the second run.
Treasure Valley scored its first run of the game in the fourth before CSI scored what would eventually be the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Lippard doubled and Christensen moved him to third on a single. A
Daniel Nist ground out to the pitcher brought Lippard in.
The Chukars would score one run in the eighth and one in the ninth but
Tyler Rosas recorded three straight outs to prevent further damage and preserve the win.
Christensen ended the game 3-for-3 with one RBI, while Lippard was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
CSI threw six pitchers in the game.
Ryan Beard earned the win for the Golden Eagles, giving up one hits and no runs in his two innings.
