Box Score 2 TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho outlasted Miami-Dade 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, 23-25, 19-17 in a 2 1/2 hour match before dominating Hutchinson CC 25-17, 25-13, 25-12.
The Golden Eagles looked poised to beat Miami-Dade in three sets after winning the first two. But the Sharks had other plans, taking the third and fourth sets. With the momentum clearly on its side, Miami-Dade led most of the third set and took a 14-11 lead in set five that seemed impossible to overcome.
After a time out, Jojo Kruize pounded a kill and
Shiloh Peleras and
Ashelyn Jones combined for a kill to pull CSI within 14-13. Another kill by Kruize tied of the set. Miami-Dade responded with a kill to give the Sharks their third match point. But Peleras and
Marija Djonovic tied it up again with a double block.
Alycia Wodke gave CSI the 17-16 lead on a kill but Miami-Dade again answered on a kill by Leidy Vargas. CSI scored on a hitting error by the Sharks followed by a dig by
Luana Thompson that Djonovic kept alive and Thompson sent back over the net for the kill and the match.
Wodke finished the match with 19 kills and just three errors along with 15 digs. Kruize added 13 kills, 15 digs, three blocks and two aces. Jones had 13 kills and Peleras posted 10 kills, four blocks and five digs. Djonovic led the team with 45 assists. She also had one ace, two blocks and seven digs.
CSI was unstoppable offensively against Hutchinson, finishing the match with 35 kills and just five errors for a team .462 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles were led by Wodke who finished with 15 kills and did not have her first hitting error until the third set. She added six digs. Kruize had five kills, no error in eight attempts. Thompson led the defense with 14 digs.
The Golden Eagles, now 10-3 overall, travel to Henderson, Nev. Friday ad Saturday for their final tournament weekend before conference play starts.
