TWIN FALLS - After sweeping the fifth-ranked Salt Lake Bruins Friday, the 10th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball team split on Saturday, falling 4-1 before run ruling the Bruins 8-0 in five innings on sophomore day.
Prior to the first pitch of the game, President Jeff Fox and CSI Board members were on hand to announce the official naming and dedication of the CSI Softball field to First Federal Field. President Alan Horner and First Federal board members were also present. Horner threw out the first pitch.
After struggling in game one at the plate, the Golden Eagles got hot in game two and blew it open in the fourth.
CSI led 1-0 after two innings when
Jaici Bishop singled and scored on an
Erin Emanuel double.
Abby Toller led off the fourth with a home run.
Savannah Kirkpatrick followed with a home run. Bishop singled before a pop out gave CSI its first out.
Taylor Tahbo got the infield single to put the runners on the corners and Salt Lake changed pitchers. That's when
Sarah Phillips pounded the third home run of the inning to put the Golden Eagles up 6-0.
CSI finished off the run rule in the bottom of the fifth when Emanuel hit a bases-loaded 2 RBI double to put CSI up 8-0 for the win.
CheyAnne Dahl pitched the shutout, giving up just three hits with two strikeouts.
In game one, the Golden Eagles managed just five hits.
Skylar Cook was 2-for-3 with the lone RBI.
The Golden Eagles finish the regular season 40-17 overall and 30-10 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. CSI will open the Region 18 Tournament Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Salt Lake CC.
