SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team came so close to knocking off the third-ranked Salt Lake CC Bruins Friday, falling in game one 4-3 and losing game two in extra innings on a walk-off hit 2-1.
The Golden Eagles were flawless defensively, finishing the doubleheader with no errors. But the bats eluded them all day.
In game one, CSI gave up three runs in the first inning before a wild pitch in the third ultimately was Salt Lake's winning run. The Golden Eagles left seven runners on base in the game compared to three for Salt Lake and that proved to be the difference.
Sarah Phillips finished the game 1-for-3 with a home run and
Madi Ford,
Abby Toller,
Erin Emanuel,
Savannah Kirkpatrick and
Erin Emanuel all posted one hit apiece.
CheyAnne Dahl earned the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning of game two and then both pitchers shut down the offense until Salt Lake scored the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Cassidy Basinger led the Eagles, going 3-for-3 at the plate and
Abby Toller was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Kelsey Christensen pitched a gem in the losing effort, giving up two earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
