SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The 12th-ranked College of Southern Idaho Softball team hung with #3 Salt Lake all weekend, losing three games by a combined four runs. After falling 5-3 Saturday in game one, the Golden Eagles got hot, run ruling the Bruins 12-0 in five innings.
Kelsey Christensen was dominant in the CSI win, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts in the shutout.
The offense gave her breathing room. The Golden Eagles posted 13 hits.
Jaici Bishop finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
Taylor Tahbo was 2-for-2 and
Sarah Phillips was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
CSI went through two Bruin pitchers in the first two innings before Salt Lake had to come in with a third pitcher to close out the second inning. The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the first inning and nine in the second. That was plenty for Christensen to roll in the circle.
Game one mirrored Friday's game one. CSI got on the board first in the top of the first with one run. But Salt Lake answered with three runs capped by a home run.
The Golden Eagles battled back and scored one run in the third and tied it on a solo home run by
Sarah Phillips in the fourth.
But the Bruins weren't done, adding two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a single and home run.
CSI's
CheyAnne Dahl came in to pitch the remainder of the game, shutting out Salt Lake the rest of the way. Dahl gave up no runs on three hits and two strikeouts.
But the Golden Eagles couldn't push across another run, falling 5-3.
Toller finished the game 2-for-4 and Ford was 1-for-3.
CSI put together it's best defensive series of the season, posting no errors for all four games. Despite coming out of the weekend 1-3, the Golden Eagles outscored Salt Lake 19-11 for the weekend.
The Golden Eagles move to 23-12 overall and 14-6 in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
