CARSON CITY, Nev. - Minus the opening game, the College of Southern Idaho Baseball team battled with Western Nevada Thursday and Friday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Golden Eagles lost 13-3 in the opener but then lost 6-2, 6-4 and 5-4.
The final game went 10 innings. The Golden Eagles tied it up in the seventh when
Braydon Torres-Moore started the inning with a leadoff walk. He advanced on a groundout before
Joey Rossi knocked a double to score Torres-Moore and tie the game at 4. It stayed that way until a walk, single, hit by pitch and a suicide squeeze plated the winning run for Western Nevada in the 10th.
CSI gave up just two earned runs in the game.
In the earlier game on Friday, the Golden Eagles trailed 6-1 going into the seventh. They plated three runs in the top of the inning but couldn't complete the rally.
Rossi was the only CSI player with more than one hit. He finished 2-for-3.Â
On Thursday, the Golden Eagles struggled on the mound, giving up 17 walks and two hit by pitch along with 17 hits.
In game one,
Kody Garvin,
Jake Boyd and
Cole Walters finished 2-for-3.
CSI out-hit Western Nevada in game two.
Mason Hayes finished 2-for-4 for the Golden Eagles at the plate. Â Pitchers
Spencer Johnson,
Tyler Rosas and
Bailey Daugio combined to give up just five hits with four strikeouts. But they combined for 10 walks which proved to move to overcome offensively.
The Golden Eagles move to 13-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play. CSI hosts Colorado Northwestern Friday and Saturday.
