TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team battled all day but just couldn't overcome the College of Southern Nevada's pitching, falling to the Coyotes 4-0 and 6-3 Friday in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Game one was a pitcher's dual as neither team scored until the sixth inning. Southern Nevada scored one earned and three unearned runs in the sixth and that was all the cushion they would need.
Mason Hayes led the Golden Eagles at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.Â
Cody Barkdull earned the loss but pitched well, giving up just four hits and one earned run in five innings. Parker Loutsensock finished the game, going two innings and giving up two hits and two unearned runs.
In game two, the sixth inning proved to be the difference again. With the teams tied at 1 apiece, Southern Nevada scored four runs in the top of the sixth and it was too much for CSI to overcome. CSN added a run in the seventh before the Golden Eagles scored their final two runs in the eighth.
Quentin Marcelin led off the inning with a single. After a flyout,
Cole Walters singled to move Marcelin to third. Walters stole second before Hayes scored Marcelin on a sac fly to right field. Ben Lippard doubled to to bring in Hayes but the rally ended on a ground out.
The Golden Eagles host Southern Nevada at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday.
