TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho Athletic Department announced the selection of
Lindsey Anderson Monday as the new head Men's and Women's cross country and distance track coach for the Golden Eagles.
Anderson, who competed at Weber State University and ran for the United States in the Beijing Olympics, will be charged with restarting the CSI program after a 19 year hiatus.
The Golden Eagles last fielded a cross country and track and field program in 1998-99. They will again compete in both in the 2017-2018 school year.
"I can't think of a better person to restart this program," said CSI Athletic Director
Joel Bate. "She will bring instant credibility and return quickly the program to its former status."
CSI was named the top junior college cross country program in the nation in 1996 and 1997 because overall its men's and women's cross country teams combined to place the highest of any program in the country.
Anderson, from Morgan, Utah and currently living in Bakersfield, Calif., competed for Weber State University from 2003 to 2007. She ended her collegiate career as a two-time All American in the 3000m Steeplechase and Indoor 5000m; a school record holder in the 3000m Steeplechase, 10,000m and Indoor 5000m; and a two-time WSU Women's Athlete MVP. She also was an Academic All-American; a seven-time Big Sky Conference Individual Champion in multiple distance events in indoor and outdoor track and broke the NCAA Steeplechase record.
After graduating from Weber State, Anderson signed with Nike to run professionally. That summer she finished third at the U.S. Outdoor Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase to qualify for the 2007 World Championships in Japan. In 2008, she finished second at the Olympic Trials to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, finishing 24th overall. In 2009, she again qualified for the World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
During that time and after hanging up her running shoes competitively, Anderson served as an assistant track coach at Weber State from 2007 to 2014.
Recently, while living in Bakersfield, Calif., she was a volunteer assistant track coach at Cal State Bakersfield from 2014 to 2015.
"I am so excited to join CSI as the Head Cross Country/Distance Coach in bringing back what was once one of the best NJCAA Cross Country programs in the nation," Anderson said. "My goal is to continue and exceed the previous standard of excellence that is the CSI Cross Country/Distance Track team. I can't wait to help these student-athletes develop the work ethic and confidence to run the best they can throughout their running career."
Anderson, who graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics and a P.E. Teaching/Coaching Minor, will make the move to Twin Falls in mid-November with her husband Mark and their daughter Peyton and son Avett. However, she will begin immediately on the recruiting trail.
