HENDERSON, Nev. - The College of Southern Idaho Baseball team fell to Arizona Western 9-5 Saturday before beating Yavapai 12-11 in the Border Battle Tournament.
The Golden Eagles matched Arizona Western through the first three innings, heading into the fourth tied 4-4. But Arizona Western tacked on two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth and CSI could only muster one more run late in the game.
Kody Garvin finished the game 1-3 with two runs scored and
Trevor Lippard went 1-3 with two walks. The CSI pitchers only gave up eight hits in the nine innings but also gave up 10 walks, which proved to be too much to overcome.
In the late game, CSI jumped out to a big lead and held on for the win. The Golden Eagles led 11-0 before Yavapai started to get hot.
Cody Schmidt went 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple and
Cole Walters was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including two doubles.
Alec West-Guillen earned the win on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up no earned runs with eight strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 overall. They finish up their road trip with a nine-inning game Sunday at 11 a.m. MST against San Jacinto.
