SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, dropping a five-set match to #9 Western Nebraska 24-26, 25-11, 25-22, 20-25, 15-8 before beating #6 Missouri State University West Plains 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-11.
The Golden Eagles struggled to get in any type of rhythm early, managing just an .045 hitting percentage for the opening match. Western Nebraska wasn't much better, hitting .194. But the Cougars out-blocked CSI 10-7 and posted 88 digs to just 69 for CSI. Only two CSI players reached double digits in kills -
Alexandra Espinosa and
Alycia Wodke. Both finished with 11. Wodke added 20 digs.
Regan Harr added 13 digs and 32 assists.
In the second match, The Golden Eagles used a dominating performance at the net from their middle blockers to defeat MSU - West Plains.
Larissa Dos Santos finished the match with 17 kills and 10 blocks,while
Tawnee Luafalemana added 10 kills and nine blocks. CSI switched its offense up in this match, going back to a 6-2. Harr and
Marija Djonovic combined for 64 assists.
Espinosa and Wodke finished each finished with a double-double. Espinosa had 15 kills and 18 digs, while Wodke posted 16 kills and 20 digs. Libero
Luana Thompson added 17 digs.
CSI, 5-1 overall, faces Casper College at 9 a.m. and #3 Northwest College at 1 p.m. Saturday. Casper took Salt Lake to five sets before falling to the Bruins on Friday. Northwest also went five sets with Salt Lake, ultimately losing to SLCC.
