MIAMI, Fla. - The College of Southern Idaho Volleyball team won its first two matches Friday as the top-ranked team in the nation, beating Florida State College Jacksonville 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 and Miami Dade CC 25-19, 26-24, 25-16.
The Golden Eagles seemed in control of the match against Miami Dade, winning game one fairly easily. But the Sharks jumped out to a big lead in game two and looked to even the match when they took the 24-19 edge. CSI managed to break Miami Dade's serve to get to 20 and CSI head coach
Heidi Cartisser subbed in
Skye Southwick to serve. The sophomore served six straight points including an ace to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the game at 25-24 and
Alycia Wodke put down a kill to give CSI the second game.
From there, CSI rolled. Wodke finished the match with 14 kills and 13 digs to lead the Golden Eagles.
Regan Harr added 33 assists and 12 digs.
Against FSC Jacksonville,
Tawnee Luafalemana led the Golden Eagle attack with 17 kills and one error. She added 3 blocks.
Alexandra Espinosa and
Larissa Dos Santos finished with 10 kills apiece. Espinosa posted a double-double, adding 10 digs.
Luana Thompson led the team in digs with 13, while
Regan Harr added 35 assists.
The Golden Eagles, 13-2 overall, play Daytona State at 10 a.m. MST and #10 Palm Beach State at 4 p.m. MST Saturday before traveling back to Twin Falls to host their first league match against #9 Salt Lake CC.
