TWIN FALLS - The College of Southern Idaho and Southern Nevada were locked in a pitching duel heading into the sixth inning Friday when Tyler Brown knocked a ball over the left-field fence to end the deadlock and give CSN the lead they wouldn't relinquish, ultimately winning 2-0 in nine innings.
Golden Eagle pitcher
Zack Draper kept the Coyote hitters off balance all game, scattering eight hits. With two outs in the eighth inning, Draper gave up a triple to Kenny Meimerstorf. CSI made the switch on the mound to
Tyler Burdett who came into the game and got Kayden Porter to strikeout but the pitch was wild and Meimerstorf scored for Southern Nevada's only other run.
The Golden Eagles couldn't get anything going at the plate. CSI looked like they might be able to score at least one run in the second inning when
Bodie Cooper led off the inning with a single followed by a
Mikey Ortega walk. But
Cole Walters hit a short fly ball to left field on a hit-and-run and Southern Nevada pulled off the triple play, shifting all momentum back to the Coyotes.
CSI, now 28-17 overall and 13-12 in SWAC play, hosts Southern Nevada for a doubleheader Friday at 2 p.m. and a single game Saturday at noon.
